Welcome back to what I thought was going to be a change in weather! Indeed it keeps changing every day from warm to cold then back again! I remind everyone, however, that regardless of the weather all children must be wearing their school hat while outside. Don't forget to write the name on the hat as we already have some in the lost property.
This week is the last week for students to have the option of either summer or winter uniform. All students will need to be in summer uniform starting next week. Please ensure they are wearing the correct footwear: brown shoes and runners only for sports day.
Our 40th celebrations continue next term with a Family Bush Dance in Cooinda on Friday night October 25th 6.30pm-8pm. The children have been practising with Mrs Padden and performing in impromptu dances in the playground. Be sure to come along and see the choir and uke perform. A Flier has been sent home with details. Fill in your RSVP and send to school with the $30 family entrance amount.
Our Year 3/4 children began the term by participating in their school camp to Mt Eliza. While the weather was challenging at time it proved to be a most enjoyable time for everyone. Thank you to David Cammarata, Martin Healey, Dale Pixton, Mark Bonello and Dave Johnstone for volunteering you time to assist on the two days. Thank you to Mrs Timea, Ms Olivia and Ms Adele, Mrs Fedoruk and Mrs McBean for the time taken to organise and be with the children over the time of the camp.
Our recent Art show keeps on giving. Children had the opportunity to enter a piece of work into the recent Royal Melbourne Show. Twenty three children did this with 3 of our children receiving an award. Congratulations India Lily Johnstone who received first prize, Angie Tsihrintzis who received a Very Highly Commended and Willow Johnstone who received a Highly Commended. While I was not able to go to the Royal Melbourne Show I have been told it was a thrill to see our works on display for all the public to view.
Big Child Care have committed to a ‘Before School Program for the remainder of the year and all of 2020. We are currently under the required numbers but we are committed to growing the numbers. If you would like to take advantage of this service, particularly during the Christmas season to get to work earlier, go to the gym or for you children to simply enjoy a great start to the day (breakfast included) then go to the Big Child Care website and enrol online.
Child Safety is something we take extremely seriously at St Augustine’s. While at time is may appear ‘over the top’ it is for the safety and care of your children.
All volunteers entering the school building must come to the front office and sign in first and have a working with children card
Volunteers in need of a toilet are to use the toilets in Cooinda. Do not enter the children’s toilets at any time. If your child needs assistance after school please call a staff member to help.
Please refrain from bringing dogs to school. While your dog may be considered docile it is after all an animal that can easily become scared and react adversely to a child.
There are policies on the school website you are encouraged to read under the ‘Child Safe’ banner that can help inform how we endeavour to keep all our children safe.
To the Calderone family (Michelle, Frank, Anthony and Sofia), please accept our sympathy and prayers on the recent loss of your dad and grandfather.
Condolences to the Cullia family (Massimo, Alessandro, Joseph and Joanne) whose uncle passed away after a long illness.
May you find comfort in knowing our community is thinking of you at this difficult time and find comfort in the memories and stories shared. May God's love be a source of strength and give you hope in your sadness.
